There is something very magical that happens between whippets and children of all ages.
they simply put are comfortable souls - together
Like any breed they need supervision with young children as either party can be accidentally hurt but as a general rule of thumb whippets are excellent dogs with kids. They love to play and fetch and chase and are in fact very comical creatures. when bedtime comes they like to cuddle close and make excellent sentry systems (though not guard dogs they will alert the family if there is unwanted or strange activity).
We have some wonderful photos of our whippet pups with young children and I have photos of my three grown girls with their whippets now, it does become a family affair. I have often sold dogs to young adults who had whippets growing up who now want a whippet of their own.
Whippets have suddenly seen a rise in their presence in the media so now they are the "in" dog to own as a result many back yard breeders and puppy mills looking to make a buck have cropped up all over the world. Please make sure that your whippet is from a healthy reliable kennel with good back grounds, pedigrees, health testing and lots of references ~ a be prepared to give references of your own particularly your vet or the one that you plan on using as well as a few close friends who could speak to how a dog is being cared for in your home.
